How to find a job next June?

How to find a job next June?

If you are graduating in June 2011 and you plan to work, you
should start actively looking for a job now.
Most people get their jobs by talking to friends, family, neighbors,
acquaintances, teachers, o former coworkers, and others who know of an opening.

My first job, an entry level administrative job, was
referred to me through a relative. Relatives are good sources of finding a new
job. Relatives also know that you need a job. There is nothing shameful to get
a job with a family business or with a family acquaintance. In the old days, a job is a job and the
interview process is much less sophisticated. Expectation for the candidate from
the potential employer is low. If there is a need to fill a position, they hire
you. But today’s job market is much more sophisticated. Unless you have a
trained skill such as an engineer, a medical doctor, an accountant, or a
statistician, you better know what you want to do and convey that message as
clearly as possible to the potential employer.

So I got my first job, but never gave up to aspire to work
for a big 8 accounting firm. But without a connection, it is extremely
difficult to get into those big companies.
If you have a straight A GPA, your first job will be easier. I remember that
the Big 8 accounting firms in my days only hire straight A students, blond,
male, and six foot. I kept trying for 2
years, sending out at least 52 application letters. I got two interviews, one
through the CPA of our company and one other interview through the regular letter
application. Both interviews yielded no offers. I eventually got in the big 8
after acquiring 2 years of auditing experience.

Today’s internet job site is also a great source for finding
a job. Don’t be afraid to sign up websites such as Careerjob.com,
monsterjob.com, or any of these internet HR data bank companies. Just be
careful about those sites that ask you for a deposit or money in advance. Be
careful about fraud whenever they ask for money first.

In 2007, shortly after I started my own company, I actually came back to Nashua, New Hampshire and
tested the job market. To my surprise, a letter to a local healthcare firm generated
an interview immediately. I also got a job interview through careerjob.com with
a large brokerage firm. I even went through the process of taking the broker’s
exams and got an offer from this firm. But I did not take the job because it didn't
meet my objectives.

The bottom line is that internet job sites and conventional
newspaper ads work. For entry level positions, the internet job site is an
excellent place to start. You may have to be patient because there are
thousands of links and not every link is directly associated with a real job.

I never got a job through the campus placement center. So I
don’t know how good the campus placement center is.

I had great experience with headhunters. My first experience
with the headhunter started with a layoff from Wang Laboratories. The
headhunter found me and landed a job for me in China. Subsequently, I had two
more headhunter experiences, one ended up with Nike and the other with Coke. If
you have a professional skill, language skill, or some work experience, try to
list with a personnel agency. Normally recruiting agency looks for beginners with special
skills. But you need to convince them to list you.

Persistence and patience are necessary in finding a
job. Statistically today every six men
is trying to find a job. Therefore, it is possible that it will take time to
eventually get that job. My recommendation is go for the graduate study at the
same time while applying for jobs.
